Nationality administration includes affairs related to naturalization of foreign nationals , acquisition of Japanese nationality through notification, renunciation of Japanese nationality through notification, the choice of nationality by a person who has dual nationality, recognition of Japanese nationality, and consultation about nationality. The Legal Affairs Bureau or Regional Bureau of Legal Affairs with jurisdiction over the place of residence handles applications, notifications and consultations.
