Promotion of translation of Japanese laws

In order to build an environment in which information on Japanese laws and the Japanese legal system will be distributed internationally and where such information can be widely utilized in the international community, the Liaison Conference of Ministries and Agencies Concerning Development of an Infrastructure to Promote Translation of Laws into Foreign Languages was established within the Cabinet in January 2005.

Since April 2009, the work for translation of Japanese laws has been undertaken by the Ministry of Justice, working on editing the Standard Bilingual Dictionary and translating approximately 440 laws and regulations into English. The Ministry of Justice will continue to translate laws of great interest. The translations are available on the website with useful search functions (http://www.japaneselawtranslation.go.jp/?re=02).
