The Ministry of Justice organized a side event at the 57th Annual Session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO)

On Tuesday, October 9, 2018, the Ministry of Justice organized a side event at the 57th Annual Session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) at the Tokyo Prince Hotel. The side event addressed the forthcoming 14th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (the Kyoto Congress). Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak, Executive Director of the Thailand Institute of Justice, and Mr. Yoshimitsu Yamauchi, Assistant Vice-Minister of Justice, made presentations. Prof. Kennedy Gastorn, Secretary-General of AALCO, and many heads of delegations, participated in the side event.

Following an overview of the Kyoto Congress and an introduction of the agenda items by Mr. Yamauchi, Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak made a presentation highlighting the prominent role of the UN Crime Congress in the United Nations and Thailand’s initiatives regarding crime prevention, criminal justice and the rule of law, which is the overall theme of the Congress.

The side event was well attended, including attendance by justice ministers, which showcased the high level of interest towards the Kyoto Congress.
