Correctional Exhibition

During the Kyoto Congress, we will promote public awareness on prison work and sell “Products manufactured by sentenced inmates.” Please stop by the Correctional Exhibition, which is located near the exit of the Event Hall.

Content

Products manufactured by sentenced inmates include a variety of items such as daily supplies, toys, and traditional handicrafts. Prison work is an important treatment for correction and rehabilitation of prisoners and is intended to promote their smooth reintegration into society with occupational knowledge and skills.
Recently, inmates in Kyoto Prison, in collaboration with Kyoto Women's University, have produced castanets designed by the university students. Through such efforts, inmates can feel connected with society, which leads to an increase in their motivation to return to society.
We hope that you will take a look at those products and deepen your understanding of the prison work as a form of treatment in Japanese prison.
A portion of the proceeds from the products will be used to support activities of victim support organizations.
