Justice Minister Visited Myanmar and Thailand
Justice Minister Mori visited Myanmar and Thailand from December 10 to 14, 2019. In Myanmar, Minister Mori met with Mr. U Tun Tun Oo, Union Attorney General, Mr. U Tun Tun Oo, Union Chief Justice, and Mr. U Thein Swe, Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population. In Thailand, the Minister met with Mr. Somsak Thepsutin, Minister of Justice, and Mr. Chatu Mongol Sonakul, Minister of Labour.
During these meetings, the Minister and her counterparts reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the friendly ties between Japan and ASEAN countries in the field of justice affairs. Moreover, the Minister encouraged high-level representatives from Myanmar and Thailand to participate in the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which is to be held in Kyoto in 2020. In addition, the Minister promoted programs such as Japan’s recently adopted “Specified Skilled Workers” program.
On the occasion of this visit, the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) in the field of justice affairs was singed and exchanged by Minister Mori and Minister Somsak of Thailand. Minister Mori also met with female ministers and ministers in charge of disaster management. They exchanged views on policies for enactment of women’s empowerment and assistance for restoration and reconstruction after disasters.
