The exchange of a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) between the Ministry of Justice of Japan and the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

　The Ministry of Justice promotes strategic cooperation with foreign countries in the field of law and justice as one of the pillars of “justice affairs diplomacy”, and as its tool, signs memorandums of cooperation (MOC) on comprehensive cooperation with the ministries or departments of justice in other countries and regions.
　A signing ceremony was held on January 9, 2019 when Minister of Justice Takashi Yamashita visited Hong Kong, and exchanged a memorandum of cooperation with Teresa Cheng, Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong.

　The Ministry of Justice of Japan and the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China will strengthen communication, collaboration and cooperation between the two participants concerning international arbitration and mediation through the following matters in their respective jurisdictions, and promote the development of services for international arbitration and mediation.

　・Exchanging information on their legal frameworks, case law, as well as views and experiences relating to international arbitration and mediation
　・Providing training on international arbitration and mediation to individuals and institutions of Japan and Hong Kong
　・Jointly organizing forums and seminars on the promotion of international arbitration and mediation
　・Cooperation in other areas as mutually decided by both participants
