The “2nd ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum” was held from 26 September to 1 October 2025.
The Ministry of Justice of Japan convened the “2nd ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum” in Tokyo and Chiba from 26 September to 1 October 2025.
The Forum was established by the initiative of Japan at the ASEAN-G7 Justice Minister’s Interface held in 2023, as a platform where young government officials in the field of law and justice from both ASEAN and the G7 can build long-lasting relationship of trust and cooperation.
41 young officials from ministries and government organizations which are in charge of law and justice from ASEAN and the G7 participated in this second forum.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. KANDA Junichi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Justice, on behalf of Minister SUZUKI Keisuke, and H.E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN, delivered opening remarks and welcomed participants.

Lectures were given to participants by H. E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN, and Ms. Shoko Sasaki, Managing Director of Japan Immigration Association and the former Commissioner of the Immigration Services Agency, focusing on the qualities required for top management of international organizations, and the issues to be considered when formulating emergency response measures for unprecedent situations.

Throughout the group discussions held over the entire programme, participants exchanged views on the policy challenges faced by each country and debated solutions to common issues from a rule-of-law perspective.
After those discussions, participants provided presentations on their outcomes.

In order to broaden their insight into the Japanese criminal justice system and initiatives in the field of law and justice, participants toured law and justice institutions including the correctional facility, offender rehabilitation facility and Foreign Resident Support Center (FRESC).

At the closing ceremony, certificates were handed to all participants by the Director of the International Affairs Division, Minister's Secretariat, Ministry of Justice.

Justice Minister SUZUKI Keisuke received a courtesy visit by H.E. Mr. Nararya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN.
