The “1st ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum” was held from 26 June to 2 July, 2024.
The Ministry of Justice of Japan convened the “1st ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum” in Tokyo from 26 June to 2 July, 2024.
The Forum was established at the initiative of Japan at the ASEAN-G7 Justice Minister’s Interface held last July, with the aim of building a long-term relationship of mutual trust between ASEAN and G7 in order to promote the international rule of law.
Approximately 60 young officials from the Ministry of Justice from ASEAN and the G7 participated in this first forum.
At the opening ceremony, Minister KOIZUMI Ryuji and H.E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN, delivered opening remarks.

Participants listened to lectures regarding the qualities required for administrative leaders and how human resources development for public officials should be conducted by Mr. TAKASHIMA Ryosuke, Mayor of Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture, Ms. Mildred Bernadette B. Alvor of the Department of Justice of the Republic of the Philippines, and Ms. KAWAMOTO Yuko, President of the National Personnel Authority.
In group discussions, participants discussed policy issues in their countries as well as issues common to all countries regarding the rule of law.
In order to broaden their insight into the Japanese judicial system, the participants toured law and justice institutions including correctional facilities and offender rehabilitation facilities.

At the closing ceremony, certificates were handed to all participants.

Minister KOIZUMI Ryuji received a courtesy visit H.E. Mr. Nararya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN.
Minister Koizumi welcomed H.E. Nararya and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the ASEAN Secretariat in organizing this forum.
In addition, both sides affirmed to work closely together to further strengthen cooperation.
