Justice Minister Visited the Philippines and Indonesia
Justice Minister Yamashita visited the Philippines and Indonesia from July 24 to 27, 2019. In the Philippines, Minister Yamashita met with Mr. Menardo I. Guevarra, Secretary of the Department of Justice and Mr. Silvestre H. Bello Ⅲ, Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment. In Indonesia, the Minister met with Mr. Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri, Minister of Manpower, Mr. Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly, Minister of Law and Human Rights, and Mr. Lim Jock Hoi, Secretary-General of ASEAN.
During these meetings, the Minister promoted programs such as Japan’s recently adopted “Specified Skilled Workers” program. Moreover, the Minister and his counterparts reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the friendly ties between Japan and ASEAN countries in the field of justice affairs. In addition, the Minister encouraged high-level representatives from the Philippines and Indonesia to participate in the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which is to be held in Kyoto in 2020.
