Two resolution sponsored by Japan were adopted at the 30th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (May 21, 2021)

 On May 21, 2021, two resolutions entitled “Fourteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice”*1 and “Reducing reoffending through rehabilitation and reintegration”*2 were adopted by consensus at the 30th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in Vienna, Austria. In addition, the contents of these resolutions were strongly supported and co-sponsored by a number of countries.
 Upon adoption of the two resolutions and the strong support, Mr. YAMAUCHI Yoshimitsu, Assistant Vice-Minister of Justice intervened and conveyed gratitude to the Member States.
 
*1 This resolution expresses satisfaction with the results achieved by the Fourteenth United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (“Kyoto Congress”) which Japan hosted in Kyoto in March 2021, and endorsing the Kyoto Declaration which was adopted at the Kyoto Congress.
 
*2 This resolution aims to convene an expert group meeting to share information on promising practices to reducing reoffending with a view to developing model strategies which can serve as useful tool for Member States. The development of model strategies on reducing reoffending is one of the main follow-up to the Kyoto Declaration which Japan aims to carry out.
