The Agreement with the Attorney-General of Fiji to Hold the Fiji-Japan Strategic Dialogue on Law and Justice

 From 8 to 11 January 2024, officials of the Ministry of Justice of Japan headed by Ms. SHIBATA Noriko, the Assistant Vice-Minister of Justice, visited the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court in the Republic of Fiji to build comprehensive relations with the Pacific Island nations in the field of law and justice, under the initiative of the ‘Justice Affairs Diplomacy.’

 During the visit, Assistant Vice-Minister SHIBATA and Fijian Attorney-General and Minister for Justice TURAGA agreed that officials of the both ministries will visit Tokyo and Fiji in turn to hold a dialogue in the field of law and justice on a regular basis, which is called the ‘Fiji-Japan Strategic Dialogue on Law and Justice.’
 
 Attorney-General and Minister for Justice TURAGA warmly welcomed Assistant Vice-Minister SHIBATA at the Fiji International Airport and all the heads of law and justice departments attended the meeting and explained respective mandates and challenges, which showcased their high expectation for cooperation with Japan in the field of law and justice.
 
 The Ministry of Justice of Japan will build partnership with Fiji to promote the rule of law through the ‘Fiji-Japan Strategic Dialogue on Law and Justice,’ and strive to undertake the promotion of the rule of law in the Pacific Island nations especially for the forthcoming the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM10) to be held in Tokyo this year.
