The “3rd Asia-Pacific Criminal Justice Forum” was held on 24 and 25 June, 2024.

 The Ministry of Justice of Japan (MOJJ) convened the “3rd Asia-Pacific Criminal Justice Forum (Crim-AP)” in Tokyo on 24 and 25 June, 2024.This forum was established to follow up the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, or “Kyoto Congress” held in 2021 at Kyoto. 

 MOJJ and the UNODC jointly organized the forum to further promote international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region by promoting mutual understanding and trust among criminal justice practitioners from various countries and sharing knowledge.

 During the Forum, two working groups on international cooperation in the fields of Mutual Legal Assistance (WG-MLA) and Offender Treatment and Rehabilitation (WG-OTR) started their work under the overall theme “Implementing the Kyoto Declaration: Strengthening International Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific to Fight Crime”.
 Practitioners and experts from the participating countries and organizations shared information and exchanged their views on asset recovery of trans-national crime and treatment of women offenders in prisons.

 State Minister KADOYAMA Hiroaki received a courtesy visit by Mr. Masood Karimipour, UNODC Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, who visited Japan to participate in the Crim-AP.
 State Minister KADOYAMA welcomed Mr. Karimipour and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific in organizing this forum.
 In addition, both sides affirmed to work closely together to further strengthen cooperation.
