What is the ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum?
The ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum is a platform for dialogue among young government officials who will lead the next generation in the field of law and justice in ASEAN and the G7.
At the ASEAN-G7 Justice Ministers’ Interface held in Tokyo in July 2023, the first-ever meeting of Justice Ministers from both ASEAN and the G7, Ministers expressed their willingness to continue holding such dialogues in the field of law and justice to further promote the rule of law. In doing so, they supported Japan’s proposal to establish the ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum.
The objective of the Next Leaders Forum is to foster mutual understanding and trust between ASEAN and the G7 by bringing together young government officials to share and discuss common issues and efforts beyond cultural, social and institutional differences.
This Forum is aimed at building “horizontal” or “inter-regional” connections among participants, as well as, through holding regular basis, “vertical” or “inter-generational” connections by facilitating longstanding trust across generations that transcend national borders.
