The 2nd ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum

The 2nd ASEAN-G7 Next Leaders Forum was held in Tokyo and Chiba from 26 September to 1 October 2025.
 
The 2nd Forum was attended by 41 young government officials from ASEAN and the G7 countries who will lead the next generation in the field of law and justice. The participants, as “Next Leaders,” built trust that transcends the framework of ASEAN or the G7 by sharing policy issues each country faces and discussing common challenges.

【Opening Ceremony】
At the opening ceremony, Mr. KANDA Junichi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Justice, on behalf of Minister SUZUKI Keisuke, and H.E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN, delivered opening remarks and welcomed the next leaders in the field of law and justice from ASEAN and the G7.

【Group discussions】
Throughout the group discussions held over the entire programme, participants exchanged views on the policy challenges faced by each country and discussed solutions to common issues from a rule-of-law perspective.
These discussions promoted mutual understanding and deepened participants' insight into the importance of the rule of law and international cooperation.

After the discussions, participants made presentations based on the given themes and shared diverse ideas that reflected various perspectives of the participants through the dialogs.

【Lectures】
In order to make fruitful discussion, lectures were given to participants by H. E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN, and Ms. SASAKI Shoko, Managing Director of Japan Immigration Association and former Commissioner of the Immigration Services Agency, focusing on the qualities required for top management of international organizations, and the issues to be considered when formulating emergency response measures for unprecedent situations.

【Excursion】
To broaden their insight into the Japanese criminal justice system and initiatives in the field of law and justice, participants visited the correctional facility (Chiba Prison), offender rehabilitation facility (Chiba-KISEIKAI) and Foreign Resident Support Center (FRESC).
