“Toward Promotion of International Mediation in ASEAN and Japan” was held during the Singapore Convention Week 2025 (25 August 2025).
As part of efforts to promote international mediation in Japan, the Ministry of Justice of Japan (MOJJ) held an international mediation event on 25 August 2025 at the Japan Creative Centre co-hosted with the Embassy of Japan in Singapore and supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and JETRO. Approximately 50 participants, including in-house lawyers and mediation practitioners from 12 countries attended the event.
Event
At the beginning of the event, Mr. HOTTA Toru, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan in Singapore made opening remarks. He mentioned this seminar aims to share knowledge and best practices regarding international mediation between ASEAN and Japan, and to discuss measures for promoting international mediation. Mr. HOTTA also stated that this event could help promote further collaboration between not only Singapore and Japan but also ASEAN and Japan.
Following opening remarks, the MOJJ and the Ministry of Law of Singapore shared their efforts to promote international arbitration and mediation respectively.

Panel discussion
In a panel discussion, Mr. TEZUKA Hiroyuki, Chief Director of the Japan International Mediation Center (JIMC) and other three speakers from Singapore, Malaysia and Japan took the stage to share best practices and discuss the benefits, common concerns and solutions in relation to international mediation.
