Assistant Vice-Minister of Justice delivered a statement at the 2020 UNDP Annual Meeting: Strengthening the Rule of Law and Human Rights for Sustaining Peace and Fostering Development
Assistant Vice-Minister of Justice YAMAUCHI Yoshimitsu and officials of the Ministry participated in the 2020 UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) Annual Meeting: Strengthening the Rule of Law and Human Rights for Sustaining Peace and Fostering Development, which was held online from June 29 to July 1, 2020.
The theme of the meeting was "The Future We Want to See — the Rule of Law and Human Rights — Securing the Social Contract”. In his statement at the opening session, Assistant Vice-Minister Yamauchi emphasized the importance of reinforcing the relationship between the people and their government by fostering public trust in, and respect for, the rule of law in order to address the social divide and the vulnerability of societies exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He further stressed the importance of cooperation with the UNDP in the area of the rule of law.
