In March 2021, the United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (the Crime Congress), which is one of the largest conferences of the UN in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, was held in Kyoto in a hybrid format combining in-person and online participation.
About 5,600 people (including online participants) from 152 member states – both of which were the largest numbers ever – registered for the Kyoto Congress, during which the Kyoto Declaration was adopted.
