Confirming the Safety of Earthquake Victims (Inquiries on Departure Facts)

In order to confirm the safety of those persons who may have been hurt in the Tohoku Region Pacific Coast Earthquake, the Immigration Bureau of the Ministry of Justice will be responding to inquiries, through the following procedures, relating to the facts concerning whether or not foreign nationals have left Japan.

1. Subjects of the Inquiries

Foreign nationals, who are registered through alien registration in the municipalities of the areas applicable under the Disaster Relief Act in the four prefectures of Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima and who are either your family members or relatives (including the persons equivalent to family members or relatives).

3. Method of Answering Inquiries

We will be answering by phone or fax on whether or not we have been able to confirm the “the fact of departure” of the person in your inquiry, who has been registered through alien registration records (departure prior to the earthquake and whether or not they subsequently came back into Japan) (this will take approximately half a day).

＜Details to be given for the inquiry＞

(1) Details concerning the subject foreign national

Nationality, full name, date of birth, sex, place of residence (down to the municipality)

(2) Your details

Nationality, full name, date of birth, sex, address/place of residence, contact telephone number (fax number), the relationship between you and the subject foreign national.

Note:

Details should be given in either Japanese or English.

We regret that we are unable to give out the departure records for those persons who are living in areas outside of the applicable areas and we are unable to confirm the whereabouts of those whose places of residence are unknown.

4. Opening Times

The telephone lines will be operating between 9:30 to 18:00

Inquiries by FAX will be accepted 24 hours a day (including Saturdays, Sundays and National holidays)
