Hogoshi from the Volunteer Probation Officers Association in Support of UNAFEI’s Activities will give you a gift, such as an origami crane or a paper fan with your name written in calligraphy.
Both origami and calligraphy are Japanese cultural traditions. In particular, origami is known not only in Japan but worldwide to people at all ages.

* Who are Hogoshi?

Hogoshi are community volunteers who support rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders on probation by helping them as they return to daily life in the community. Hogoshi work with professional probation officers to provide advice and guidance to offenders. They also help offenders to secure housing and conduct crime prevention activities in the community.

* What is the Volunteer Probation Officers Association in Support of UNAFEI’s Activities?

This is an organization of Hogoshi from all over the country who are cooperating in the activities of the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI). The members have been engaged in international exchanges with participants of UNAFEI’s international training courses.
