ASEAN-Japan Special Youth Forum for Promoting the Rule of Law

 The Ministry of Justice of Japan and the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) co-hosted the ASEAN-Japan Special Youth Forum for Promoting the Rule of Law with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) at the Hotel New Otani Tokyo on 5 and 6 July 2023.
 At the opening ceremony, Mr. TAKAMI Yasuhiro, the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Justice, and Dr. Phiset Sa-ardyen, the Executive Director of the TIJ delivered the opening remarks, followed by Ms. SEKIGUCHI Aimi’s VR art performance.

 Over 60 youths from Japan, ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste gathered together and made discussions under the theme of “Building Justice Literacy for Enhanced Access to Justice the Key to the Rule of Law in the Digital Era”.
Group Discussion
 After a series of intensive discussions among diverse youth from various countries, future-oriented "recommendations" from a fresh perspective unique to youth were compiled. The recommendations were submitted to the ASEAN- Japan Special Meeting of Justice Ministers (AJSMJ) held at the same time and venue as well as the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ).

 The “Justice Affairs Diplomacy” Ministerial Forum was held at the same time and venue, and the youth participants had opportunities to exchange their views with the Justice Ministers from Japan, ASEAN member states and Timor-Leste.
