Sachiko suffered her injuries on the Marunouchi Line. With injuries to her brain, she is now bedridden. Even now, she receives the devoted care of Kazuo Asakawa and his family.

Looking back on this year, my younger sister, Sachiko, has been hospitalized for more than a year. There have been no major changes to her condition. However, although she lost quite a bit of weight since first coming to the hospital and being unable to eat food from her mouth, I think that her complexion has greatly improved. At the hospital, she is undergoing rehabilitation to soften her joints that had stiffened and for her to be able to sit in a wheelchair. Sachiko is continuing to fight with all her might to live. All we can do is just go to visit. When I see her, Sachiko moves her mouth as if to ask for something, but there is no voice. I think she is probably saying that she wants to go home. But, I don’t touch on that subject. I think it would be painful for her. My mother who is turning 94 years old this year always ask about how Sachiko is, but she has become almost bedridden and it is difficult for her to visit.
It is difficult for me to think about Sachiko’s feelings. Can everyone who is reading this imagine just a little? Being bedridden for over 20 years, not being able to communicate or eat what you want. The pain of having no freedom. An unimaginably harsh situation. We feel sad when we see her like that, but try not to use negative words with her in spite of that. We feel that if we did that with her, she herself would not be able to carry on. For my family, the most important thing is to do things that Sachiko likes or thinks is fun.
This year, the executions for the Tokyo subway sarin gas attacks were carried out. Nothing changed for my family because of that. The executions will not return Sachiko to how she was, or even give her back the 23 years she has lost. Is this country trying to forget about the Tokyo subway sarin gas attacks by carrying out the executions as we head towards the end of the Heisei period? Will we be forgotten? I would like this country to once again face the lives and feelings of all crime victims. I will be 60 years old next year and face retirement. I feel my body becoming weaker, and am worried about my finances. It’s because Sachiko’s hospitalization fees are becoming a burden every year.
I still do not know the truth about the Tokyo subway sarin gas attacks. Nevertheless, I still feel threatened by the reality that new followers are still joining Aleph and Hikari no Wa. We must not lest there be a second or third attack by Aum. I just want this country and government to establish a system that will prevent another sarin gas attack on the subways.
