What is parental authority?

Parental authority refers to the authority and/or responsibility to look after, educate, and manage the property of a child, or to do so on behalf of or in the best interests of the child.
Married parents exercise parental authority jointly during their marriage. However, when parents divorce, they must decide which parent will have parental authority in relation to the child.
