How to claim marital expenses?

If the other party does not pay marital expenses to the household account after separation, it is possible to claim the relevant portion of the marital expenses from the other party. You can also use the Proceedings for Conciliation of Domestic Relations of the family court. A petition for conciliation of domestic relations may be submitted to either a family court having jurisdiction over the place of domicile of the other party or a family court determined by agreement between the parties (link to the website of the family court (Japanese only)).
